There’s nothing more fun than doing “tasties” at some of Austin’s best food trailers.

In fact, Austin has 648 registered food trailers and the prediction is 1600 by October.   That’s a lot of food and fun in Austin, Texas.

Here’s a map of our crawl

Flip Happy Crepes:

John and Scherry Chapman, Mary Radius and I got an early start on our food crawl. We skipped breakfast so we’d be mighty hungry before our first stop at Flip Happy Crepes, located at 400 Jessie Street. Paul, chef and culinary magician, was getting ready for the onslaught of customers that descend on Flip Happy for lunch.

Hours:

Wednesday – Friday 10:00am – 2:30pm

Saturday 9:00am – 3:00pm
Sunday 10:00am – 2:00pm

Odd Duck

If you’re looking for something different than you’re typical dog, burger or taco, look no further than Odd Duck. The menu includes such items as venison with sauerkraut, pork belly slider, quail with cucumber salad or duck breast with grilled broccoli.  Most important is that owner Bryce Gilmore buys local and the food is always fresh. When he runs out, the order window shuts.

Stop by at 1219 S. Lamar at the Lamar square light

LuLu B’s:

LuLu B’s food trailer is located under an enormous spreading oak tree (really) at 2113 South Lamar Boulevard in Austin, Texas. This popular lunch spot will quickly addict you to the Vietnamese sandwiches (bánh mì thit). In addition to the sandwiches, Lulu B’s offers inexpensive vermicelli bowls, summer rolls, smoothies, and superb bubble tea. Vietnamese coffee made with sweetened condensed milk is served hot or over ice.

Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 11:30am-6pm; Saturday, 11:30am-6:30pm

Torchy’s Tacos:

Delicious! At about $3.25, one just isn’t enough. Try the Green Chili Pork or  the Democrat (shredded beef barbacoa topped with fresh avocado). With 7 locations in Austin and 1 in Dallas, you know Torchy is doing lots of things right. They’ll even bring a Torchy’s Taco trailer to your next party. Now, that’s a great catering idea.

Hey Cupcake:

These are not your mother’s cupcakes. Whether you pick the Michael Jackson or the 24 carrot, you can’t miss. Always fresh, never does a Hey Cupcake see the following day. Baking begins at 3:00 a.m. and is delivered to the five Austin locations. When the cupcakes are gone, the window closes and you’ll have to come back tomorrow.
