A Picasso, of course!
The Tate Modern in London has, on loan, Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves and Bust.
Art titles have always amused me. Picture Picasso sitting before his masterpiece (painted in one day), staring at those incredible brush stokes and thinking…Ok, Marie-Therese’s naked body, a little foliage and a head. I’ll just call it Nude, Green Leaves and Bust. Voila! There you have it. The most expensive painting ever sold at auction.
Picasso met Marie-Therese Walter as she was coming out of a Paris Metro. He approached her and announced: “I’m Picasso! We are going to do great things together.” She was seventeen. He was …well, much older. Eight years later, Picasso exchanged Walter for a new mistress, Dora Maar. Ah, c’est la vie!
On March 7th Nude, Green Leaves and Bust arrived at London’s Tate Modern for visitors’ to enjoy. The last time it was available for public viewing was 60 years ago. If you plan to visit London for the up-coming 2012 Olympics, stop by the Tate.
